A Friendship Lost

I listen
As someone close to me
Tells me how I’ve hurt them.
They say
I never care
And that I’m never there.
That I never listen
To what they need to say.
I say it isn’t true.
Of course I care,
I’m always there to listen.
I always try to help.
But now they are the one
Who won’t listen.
I watch
As they pull themselves away.
I lose them
As the moments pass by
But nothing I say
Brings them back.
I feel
My soul being torn.
My heart breaks
As it has so many times before.
Just another hole,
That time will only cover
But not close.
The reason
Is a friendship lost,
Never to be regained.
