One-shot. Based off of a topic for journal entries in English class in 8th grade. Revised this year and made much better than ever before.

Characters (c) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
1 - Sherlock Holmes and the Case of Salt
Author's Note: Rewritten and remade as an entry in our high school's literary magazine. (Not sure whether it was chosen yet or not.) Not very many people in my high school seem to read, let alone the Canon, so this short fiction had to explain a lot on Holmes' character and personality. My apologies for the excess of explanations. As for those who did not read the original, an explanation as to why it was written about salt of all things. In 8th grade during a journal writing session in Advanced English, my teacher gave us all a different picture and told us to write about the picture. My picture was of a man, sitting in a chair (his back towards the viewer of the picture), and looking at a pile of something. The caption for the picture read "The meal had been oversalted." The man in the picture looked suspiciously like Holmes and I knew I had to base my journal entry on the Canon. Hopefully you will find that although this new version contains more explanations, my writing has improved. Disclaimer: All characters belong to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I claim no ownership over them."Sherlock Holmes and the Case of Salt"(Taken from the writings of Doctor John H. Watson)The Case of Salt is a very short and curious one, and it does not follow my previous narratives of my friend's adventures. This case occurred in our residence at Baker Street when I still had my medical practice to attend to and my wife, God rest her soul, was with me. I have never mentioned this case in my narratives before, but I shall now disclose it to my faithful readers. It was a typical chilly London morning when I left my practice to see my dear friend, Sherlock Holmes."Watson, I’ll be with you in a moment." He spoke to me upon my entrance as he was working with various chemicals. He was, without a doubt, testing a new theory of his.You would never know what to expect when around Holmes. He kept untidy records of criminals and tobacco in a Persian Slipper. Holmes also kept various items strewn about the room and on occasion would practice with his revolver on the wall. My friend was, I imagine, a living nightmare for any housekeeper he came across. It was at this moment my friend seemed to have remembered something and walked over towards the other side of the room, leaving his experiment for the time being."Good to see you Watson," He did not bother to turn around as he began searching for something amidst the various items he had collected throughout the years I had known him. "I’m afraid I’m on a most puzzling case.""How so?""Mrs. Hudson has been oversalting meals lately."Frankly, at first I could find no connection as to what "oversalting" meals had to do with anything. Mrs. Hudson is the housekeeper of our residence at Baker Street and an excellent cook, if I may say so myself."You see, Watson, Mrs. Hudson only does this when she’s angry or upset.""What could have possibly caused her to be upset?" I wondered aloud, sitting down in my usual seat. Mrs. Hudson on occasion had spoken to my friend about his strange habits but she put up with them.My friend looked back at me, pausing his search. "I’m not certain at the moment. She handed me a paper earlier but I cannot remember where I placed it."Holmes had given up his search, sighed, and walked over to the Persian Slipper and in reaching for the tobacco, found the missing paper inside. My friend quickly read it and started laughing."What is it, Holmes?""I forgot to pay her."And thus, the Case of Salt came to a close.
