“Kai!”
Kai was woken up the next mourning to find he wasn't in his room. On top of that, something was draped over his legs and was digging into his side. The first thing he noticed when he woke up was Donna, who was standing before him. He then realised that he was still on the sofa. Emma too. They had fallen asleep there!
“Kai?”
He could only imagine how awkward they must look there and he was trying to find an explanation to tell Donna. Then he realised that Donna looked concerned, instead of curious or suspicious. He sat up. “Donna, what's wrong?”
“Kai, Gilraens gone!”
Kai jumped up off the sofa and sprinted to his room. He changed quickly and dashed downstairs to find everyone ready to go and look for her. Rei, Kenny, Tyson, Max, Donna, Lauri and Emma (who still looked tired) we're all standing by the door.
“Lets go!” Tyson opened the door and Kai and Donna lead the way. They knew exactly where they we're going.
As they approached the house, they found the door locked. Kai got out his blade.
“Dra—“
“You don't have time! Drafite go!”
“Go Deana!” Lauri, standing beside Emma, let her blade rip. Kai put his back in his pocket and as soon as Emma and Lauris blades had made a hole in the wooden door, everyone climbed through. Emma and Lauri caught their blades and went inside. Gilraen wasn't in the same room as she had been in last time. She was in a bigger room this time. Tied up to the wall. Sure enough, Adrian was standing by, as if waiting for them all to join them. Everyone piled into the room, their beyblades in their hands, ready. Gilraen looked up.
“You guys made it!” Adrian looked at his watch. “Finally. I thought you lot we're never going to show up. But now that everyone is here, I can start.” He smiled at them. An evil, cold smile. Everyone else looked confused. Adrian didn't pay attention and continued talking.
“Now, I'm sure two of you know why you are here, but I'm just going to tell everyone else, just so we can catch up here. Now, I have kidnapped your friend here because I am going to kill her.”
Kai glared at him and clenched his fists “Enough stalling!”
“Yes, yes. Of course. Now, I'm just going to tell everyone who wasn't here last time why I am trying to kill you. I'm sure you all remember my brother.”
It was obvious that nobody in the room except Kai and Gilraen knew what he was talking about but he contined anyway.
“Now, we shall start at the beginning and you must correct me if I am wrong, Gilraen. Right, first of all my brother and Gilraen were close friends, but then he tried to make a move on her.” He glanced at Gilraen. She looked uncomfortable. He smiled. He could tell he was getting the reaction he wanted. “Then she hurt him, badly. So he decided to get revenge and severely injure a member of the other team…”
“He tried to kill me, using Donna!” Kai yelled, angrily. There we're murmurs behind him and he could tell that his team we're re-calling his match against Donna, when Donna was having her mind controlled and Kai was nearly killed. Donna looked at the floor.
“Yes, yes. Now let me continue. Gilraen, as im sure you remember, saved Kais life. So then, when my brother locked her up in the cell, Kai came to rescue her. That's when Kai got involved in this nasty mess. Unfortunately she was re-caught, but Kai managed to escape, saying he would come back. Unfortunately then he was captured and my brother threatened to kill him if Gilraen didn't kill somebody else for him…” He paused. Gilraen looked horrified. Adrian smiled. “I'm sure you in particular will like this one, Rei.”
Rei looked startled “What?”
“Come on, Gilraen. Tell us. Tell us whose head you had to cut off in order to save Kais precious life!”
Rei stepped forward. “Gilraen, what is he talking about? You had to kill somebody? You killed somebody? Who?!”
Gilraen looked at the floor. Her lip trembled.
“Mariah.” It only came out as a whisper, but Rei heard it. He heard it alright. His eyes wide, he dropped his blade. It crashed down to the floor. He took one last step towards Gilraen. “You're lying!”
Gilraen looked up at him. Her eyes were filled with tears. She shook her head. “Rei, I'm so sorry.”
Everybody else looked just as horrified as Rei did. Tyson was stammering on words and Max just gaped at her. So did Kenny and Donna. Lauri and Emma looked utterly bewildered.
“Mariah?!” Emma exclaimed.
“White Tigers Mariah?!” Lauri repeated, just to make sure they knew what everyone was talking about. Rei walked to the other end of the room. Agonising pain emerged when his fist met the wall, but he didn't care. It had been bad enough for him when the rest of the team told him that she was dead, and then it was all over the news, but now he realised that it was one of his friends that had killed her. He didn't think he would ever get over it. Adrian was starting to get impatient.
“I'll tell you what, Kai. What don't you finish the story off, from your point of view.”
He looked at Kai. Kai, who was leaning against the wall, looked back. Then he looked at the floor and started.
“Mariah had been going out with your brother. Then he found her sporting with Rei. He was furious. That's why he told Gilraen that he wouldn't kill me if she went and killed her. She knew that she was going to die anyway, but for some reason, she really wanted to save me. So she went. I was locked up in a cell at the time. After she went, your brother left too, saying he had un-finished business to take care of. When he came back, he had something with him. I wasn't sure what it was. He let me out of the cell and had his guards tie me up against a wall in the main dungeon room. Then he took out the thing he was holding.” Kai shivered. “It was horrible.”
Everyone was now looking at Kai, except Rei, who was sitting in a corner. Donna had gone over to comfort him, but she was still listening. Nobody had ever seen Kai shiver like that, so they didn't dare ask what the thing was. Kai continued.
“Then Gilraen came back. She had done it. She had Mariahs head. That too, was horrible. I couldn't believe it. I had been hoping that she would be intelligent enough not to come back, but her loyalty overtook her intelligence. She came back for me. The guards tied her up and then left. Gilraen then realised that he wouldn't spare my life.”
“And then you killed my brother!”
“Yes.” Said Kai. “We stabbed him. Luckily, Gilraen had a knife on her.”
Adrian looked from Gilraen, to Kai, to Rei and Donna. “Well Kai, that was a great story, but now I bet I can guess what everyone is asking themselves now. And I'm here to tell them. Donna, I think you will find this one particularly interesting…”
Gilraen gasped. Donna, who was still sitting by Rei looked at him “Me?”
“Yes, Donna, you. Now, can you guess who knew all along about Andreas death?!”
