Soiny: This story takes place during Sonic Adventure 2, Battle. So this is basically about Shadow the Hedgehog, and the project ‘Ultimate life Form’. We hope you enjoy the fan fiction, and remember that it is just fandom.

A strange creature walked through Space Colony ARK, a sigh coming from the figure’s mouth. The figure seemed to be a male hedgehog, which was no ordinary animal. He stood up on two legs, wore strange gloves and was a bit bigger than an average Hedgehog and was fast. He had strange red streaks through the top of his head, and was quiet. His name was Shadow the Hedgehog, the Ultimate Life Form. The only one recorded on file, and the only one living… he was currently working along side the ‘infamous’ Doctor Ivo Robotnik, which his enemies, who were ironically animals that were more evolved, called him ‘Eggman’. Shadow was only currently working with Robotnik because he needed him to complete an old friend’s, last request. Though, he had misinterpreted what she had said… he was planning on destroying the human race, and Earth itself when he would obtain the last Chaos Emerald, which were powerful strange crystals that were created by creatures called ‘Edichinas’ and the guardian of the Chao, Chaos. Along with a giant Emerald, that was currently in pieces, the Master Emerald.

But Shadow had no concern for its power or use at the moment… all he cared about was the Chaos Emeralds. While walking down the hallway, he paused and looked at a closed room, pondering what was inside it… he had memories of the ARK, since he was created there, but he barely had any memories to hold onto about it… only memories of Maria… “… A room…” He muttered under his breath, in a strange deep, yet soft tone. He put his hand on a strange panel, which spoke: “Shadow the Hedgehog, Ultimate Life Form #1; authorization allowed.” It said, Shadow jumping back a bit, a bit surprised. It seems he had his DNA incased on the panel, allowing him to enter… he slowly walked inside of the room, looking around, confused a bit. The room was a bit dusty, and had a few broken objects inside… three broken cases, which had seemed to contain something inside them long ago… he slowly walked up to a Computer main frame, looking down at the keyboard panel. He slowly started to press a strange red button; when he pressed it, the screen in front of him, which appeared to be, cracked a little came online. “Computer #21, online… identify yourself.” It stated, asking Shadow for his identification. Shadow had to pause for a few minutes… he didn’t really have an identity, he could barely remember what he did in the past… “Shadow the Hedgehog.” He stated, the computer speaking again. “Identification, confirmed. What journal entry do you wish to feature?” It asked… it seemed to be an old file computer, putting everything into journal entries of what has happened on the ARK.

“… The last four entries that had been made, before this computer room had gone off line.” He ordered, crossing his arms as he waited for the screen to flicker to the journal entries. “Entries confirmed…” It said, as pictures and messages suddenly came popping up onto the frame, Shadow watching and reading each and everyone of them. He then saw a camera screen, showing a strange hedgehog, with brown fur close up to the screen. “... Coal, listen. I had a strange dream… about the ARK. Something bad happened, I don’t know what it was… but that girl, Maria, was wounded badly and there were strange men everywhere, killing everyone and arresting the ones they didn’t kill. It scared me…” She spoke, in a soft tone. A black bat then walked up to her… he seemed to have silver wings, and wore strange clothing as well as the female hedgehog. “It’s alright Destiny, it was just a dream.” He said, trying to reassure her. “But—you know from my files it said that they gave me this strange thing, where I can tell what might happen… like… what was that word… a premonition.” She explained. The female hedgehog then suddenly started to glow… it was a strange crystal on her forehead. She grabbed her head, yelling out in pain then suddenly there was static on the screen… Shadow blinked a few times, before closing his eyes and started to think. “Destiny… Coal… those names sound familiar, but no one I knew that well… wait. I remember…” He thought, thinking back to his memories.

Memories… Flash Back

It was a normal—well… as far as normal was up there… day, on Space colony ARK. Shadow was just staring out into space, in a room with a huge window that allowed you to look at Earth. He stood there, entranced by the planet. His curiosity rose each day about the planet Earth… was it just like Maria described it? Were all the people there just as compassionate and kind as Maria? He pondered this each and every day, and hoped to go to Earth one day with his closest, and probably only real ‘friend’. A voice then spoke up, breaking the quiet hedgehog’s thoughts. “Hey… aren’t you the hedgehog that this whole project is based around? Shadow… right?” It was a female voice… Shadow turned around; to see a brown hedgehog with glasses… she had strange attire, but seemed to be kind… “…” He stayed silent, not speaking a word to her. “Not much of a talker, huh? Well… my name is Destiny. I am project number 005.” She said, in a calm manner. Shadow finally decided to interact with her, words pouring out of his mouth. “My name is Shadow… I see you around here sometimes… usually with a strange black bat.” He said, interacting with her now. “Heh, yeah… that’s Coal. He’s all talk, and no bite, though… he’s a big push ovah’.” Destiny said, laughing a bit. “Eh… anyways… I see you around sometimes, too. You usually hang around that Maria gal, don’t you?” She asked him, Shadow nodding once. “Interesting… so, she’s your friend? Hm… well…” She was about to speak some more, but there was a voice booming over the intercom. “Experiment 005, Physic Project Beta; Destiny, last call to come to the training room for analysis on your progress.” It was a male voice, that seemed to be a bit irritated.

Destiny groaned a bit, sighing. “Greaaat. I need to go… see ya around—whoa, wait. Did ya already go through the training session today?” She asked him, while she started to head towards the door. Shadow shook his head, “No…” He said silently… he wasn’t much of a talker, the only time he really talked was around Maria. “Well, they will probably be callin’ ya after me. Come on, you should go.” Destiny stated, insisting him on coming with her. Shadow was about to speak, but it was to late. She had already grabbed him by the arm, the black hedgehog a bit shock at her actions as she dragged him off with her to the training/testing room. When they entered the room, Destiny saw her friend in sight and let go of Shadow as she waved over to Coal, since he was across the room. “Hey, Coal!” She shouted, smiling a little. Coal waved back, smirking. “Yo, Dest! Seems we are fighting each other today!” Coal shouted back to her. Destiny smirked, chuckling a bit. The intercom then came back on, the male voice speaking again. “Okay, Destiny, Coal… start as soon as the yellow light flashes to the blue light.” He instructed them, both of them nodded as they walked off into the middle of the room. On each side of the room were scientists holding papers, examining the animals. There were about… seven animals that were part of the experiment that ARK had, ‘Project Ultimate Life Form’. They were the only seven, besides Destiny and Coal… suddenly, the blue light flashed as a beeping sound whined across the room. Coal and Destiny then blasted off at a alarming speed, clashing into each other. All you could see were blurs, tackling and attacking each other.

Suddenly, both animals went flying into separate parts of the room, into the walls and made dents as the both fell to the ground. Destiny groaned a bit, getting up as she grabbed her arm… it was bleeding… “Damn…” She thought, muttering a bit as she bit her lower lip and looked up to Coal… her eye’s suddenly started to glow, as she levitated into the arm. Coal grabbed his head as she opened his eyes, getting up slowly and stared up. “Aw, crap…” He muttered. Destiny was glowing brightly, as she then suddenly dashed down towards Coal. He fluttered into the air, as he glided towards her spinning in a drill-like attack formation. The two then collided, falling to the ground. They both started to get up, and stayed still for a few minutes. Suddenly, Coal gave in and fell to the ground, Destiny smirking as she coughed, and stood up, dusting herself off. She walked over to Coal, and lent out a hand. “Good job, Coal!” She said, smiling gently. Coal laughed a little, but then yelped and grabbed his head. He was aching… he grabbed her hand, and was lifted up. “Heh, yeah… you too, Dest.” He said, smiling. Shadow had observed them both fight… all of the other projects were highly advanced in battle, appearance, mind, skills, etc; but he was the best out of all of them, that was what made him stand out from others.

Time Skip…

“They made me battle twenty times today… exhausting…” He sighed a bit, while walking past a few of the rooms. Most of the people on ARK were already snoozing, after hours of studying research and following around Doctor Robotnik… He then halted to a stop; overhearing two familiar voices… it was Maria… and that one female hedgehog. He decided to stand outside the door, and listen to what they had to say… “Maria… I am very worried about this. That dream I had, with you in it… and your friend, Shadow. I do not know what it means, but whatever it was, I suggest you to run to the escape pods with Shadow if it comes to be true… you and Doctor Robotnik have been good to all of us on ARK, including the other scientists who have been rude… ” Destiny seemed to be talking about a strange dream… “Destiny, do not worry. It was just a dream, right?” Maria then spoke, replying to what Destiny had said… she had a soft, kind voice. “I know… but you have to do as I say if it happens. We all need to get out of here if it is more than a dream…” The hedgehog murmured, and sighed. Shadow was confused and curious at the same time… a dream where Maria was injured badly? That didn’t sound good at all… but… it was just a dream, wasn’t it? Suddenly the door opened, Destiny bumping in to Shadow. “Waaaugh!” She fell down, rubbing her bottom as she looked across from herself at Shadow. “Shadow? What are you doing out here so late…” She asked, questioning him. Shadow closed his eyes, and spoke in a calm tone as if he did nothing. “I… I was just walking through the hallway. I have no need to sleep right now…” He muttered.

“O… kay.” She said, sweating a bit as she got up. “Well, whatever. Night.” She said smiling, Destiny helping Shadow up as she walked off towards her room. Shadow watched as she walked off, and then looked forwards at Maria. “Maria!” He said, Maria smiling. “Hello Shadow… did you come to see me?” She asked him, waiting for his response. “Y… yes.” He said, looking the other way shyly, but snapped out of it. Shadow and Maria then walked back into the room, and stared out at Earth, talking about the planet again like they always did… Shadow then went off to his room, which was right next to Maria’s and went to sleep. Hours had gone by, without Shadow knowing… suddenly, he awoke to a bright red light going off in his room, and loud noises screaming from the intercom. It was the alarm system… “Intruder alert, intruder alert…” It screeched, Shadow getting up as he put his hands to his ears, flinching a little then ran outside, and his eye’s widened. There were guns shooting off everywhere, people dying and being captured… all the experiments were trying to hold off these strange men that were attacking ARK, but most of them started to flee to the escape pods. He ran out, and opened up Maria’s room. “MARIA!” He yelled; no one was in the room… he saw it was messed up a bit, and some blood was on Maria’s sheets. He became angry, thinking the blood was Marias and ran out of the room. He yelled, dashing past a few soldiers as he picked up a gun and started to shoot them out of the way. He skidded to a stop, turning around to only be whacked into a open escape pod as he grunted. He opened his eyes, and looked down to see Maria. “Maria!” He shouted, about to go to her help as she then pressed a red button and spoke gently… Shadow could barely hear her, but heard her last words as she then disappeared from his sights. He yelled as loud as he could, trying to escape from the pod… but he couldn’t… he then suddenly blacked out, and fell into a deep sleep…

Back to Reality…

Suddenly Shadow’s ears snapped back when he heard a familiar female voice. It was Rouge… and annoying female bat, who was a treasure hunter. “Hey Shadow… Eggman wants you.” She said, crossing her arms as she then turned around and left the room. Shadow shook his head, sighing a bit as he shut the computer down, and turned around then left the room…
