Kai heard Gilraens voice.
“Mariah! Why are you here?! You weren't at the tournament! Adam what is she doing here?!”
Adam stood up. “Bog off, Gilraen! I'm kind of busy here!”
“I cant believe this!”
“What? Are you jealous?”
“Hmph!! She smiled “as if! It was me who dumped you after all! I know shes just some sort of re-bound!”
“hey!” yelled Mariah “What do you mean a re-bound! Guys would pay to get me!”
“yeah I know! Mariah the ho, 20p per go!!!”
Kai laughed in his cell.
Mariah stood up. “Look I don't know who you're talking about, but Adam told me he loves me!”
“Blergh! As if! Now, carry on, don't mind me, ill be leaving in a minute…” she started to walk towards the cells, but Adam stopped her.
“Go!” he said “Go up the stairs and don't come back until I tell you. Ive had enough of you!”
“Fine.” She threw something into Kais cell and walked over to the stairs. She turned around before she got to the door.
“Oh, and by the way, you lost. All three rounds.”
“You really think I care?”
“Well you should!” Gilraen walked back upstairs and headed back to her team, who were waiting for her in the coffeehouse. Kai wanted to shout “Don't leave me!” But he couldn't. She had already gone. He looked at what she had thrown in…a key. The key! He grinned. “Thankyou grandfather.”
Half an hour later, Adam came over to Kais cell.
“Mariah and I are going out. If you even try to escape, ill kill you on the spot.” And with that, he and Mariah walked out the door. Kai smiled. They didn't know he had the key. He could be out before they got back easily. He waited until he was sure they had gone, then unlocked the door. He made his way to the back door, but as he got out, guards grabbed him and pulled him back in, locking the door and taking the key away.
“shoot.” grunted Kai, as he sat himself down against the damp grimy wall of his cell. He wanted Gilraen to come back and get him out. He wanted his team to come and find him. But it was hopeless. He was stuck and now he would be killed for sure! He felt a tear fall from his left eye, but hurriedly swiped it away as he heard footsteps.
Adam stomped in. Kai thought he would be angry at him for trying to escape, but the situation was actually nothing like Kai thought. He sat down and Kai could hear him smashing up glass objects. Then Kai heard Gilraen.
“I told you this would happen.” There was a pause, then Adam answered.
“The time has come, Gilraen. You turn 16 tomorrow. You and Kai will be dead by morning.”
“No, Adam please don't do this! My team needs me, his team needs him!” She paused, as if she was thinking this over, then came to a decision.
“Please, what do I have to do to stop you killing him?”
Adam lifted his head up, and looked thoughtful. He opened his mouth to say `nothing' but then paused again.
“If you could…she's the only one I hate more…why him?…why Rei? It doesn't make sense!” It sounded as though he was talking to himself, but Gilraen carried on listening anyway, trying to put words together. Kai also listened intently in his cell. Finally Adam spoke clearly.
“Kill her.” He looked at Gilraen, then walked over to the cupboard that she had been locked inside before.
“Sorry?” said Gilraen “I can't kill anyone! I won't kill anyone!”
Adam emerged with a giant axe. “You will, or Kai dies at dawn! You will murder Mariah at midnight and I won't spare Kai until I have her head.”
“You're insane!!!” Gilraen shrieked “You're a lunatic! There's something wrong with you! You seriously need help!” Adam put up one hand, then looked at his watch.
“9pm…you'd better go, it'll take a while to walk to the hotel.”
Gilraen sighed and grabbed the axe. She put on a huge black hooded robe and, grabbing the axe, ran for the door. She ran past Kai on the way but didn't look at him. When the door slammed shut, Adam approached Kais cell. At first Kai thought he was going to be killed now. He stood his ground even though he wanted to run to the back of the cell. He stared into Adams cold grey eyes. They remained like that for about 3 seconds, but it seemed like 3 minutes to Kai, who was waiting for him to unlock the cell so he would take him to his death. But Adam didn't move. He spoke.
“I have un-finished business to take care of.” And he left Kai sitting there, relieved, but even more curious and scared.
