A practice in backgrounds with a sakura fine point. Despite messing up the water a bit, I'm overall quite pleased with this. Copied from an old photo, and smacked Tetsuo on because he's the wonderful.

I really don't care what other people are saying this is a fine example of pen shading a background.  Keep up the great work ^_^

This is a bit late, but the artist could care less about the comments and FAC, so I suppose I'll say something, although whether on it's her behalf is questionable. She can very much post and debate on her own. I only feel inclined to say something since what brought people here steaming has been deleted and some of you all may be confused:

Regarding the people dropping negative comments, it's just folks frothing over harsh constructive crit she gave to another artist that everyone happened to like, which is why I don't like Fanart Central much and haven't submitted anything: Say something that is not positive and happy anime faces and you're going to get vomitted on by the legions of rabid followers. Like a clique at school. I'm a college student now, and because of this mentality and even low standards that I refer to this place as Deviant Art for children. This place is where I go to laugh.

Here's a newsflash for all wannabe artists considering it as a career: It's a harsh world. People will gut and tear you apart. If you can't take something as simple as "you suck," back out and continue drawing your little winged wolfies and dragons in your notepad and keep it to yourself. You will get criticized. You will be loved, and be spat on. Artists for entertainment are worked like dogs; they get this kind of crap each day.

The first thing the teachers that know how to teach art will tell you is to pull up a drawing board, some paper and a piece of charcoal. Get ready for the exciting world of figure drawing! I sure don't regret it.

However, the artist she commented on in question was very mature so cheers and an e-cookie or something to her. Consider this a study of some of her fans, especially given the quality of this pic in comparison to 99% of what is posted on here. Can it be more obvious?

Although, that gray wolf kid deserves mention on his/her own: "WOLFS HUNT IN PACS."

Har har! Keep living the wolf romantic's dream! Howl at the moon!

Feel free to bookmark my profile so you can attack me there or on my art junk should I get over my case of lazies should you disagree. That is all.

I... don't get what people are saying. The ones who are being negative, anyway. "Background too detailed"? What the heck? Wasn't it an exercize in detail, as far as backgrounds go? "Need to work on lines"? Personally, I think that one was made just to be bitter; the linework is amazing. I can't say anything in referance to manners, though. It's impolite to say such things when I know nothing of the subject.

Extraneous and perhaps slightly nagging ranting aside, I can only really say that I'm amazed! Personally, I think that the picture is very pleasing to the eye; it seems lonely and stark with the contrast of black and white, and the skill with which you did everything makes me envious. X3 I hope I can get this good someday, I really do....

I think the figure fits in nicely, and the picture is very good.

The artist, however, is oblivious to things like manners, feelings, and the thought that other people she bitches to on the internet might not care if she doesn't think it's perfect.
These are all clearly concepts far beyond the artist's comprehension, and such limited empathy and understanding of society won't make you great, and it won't get you respect if you display that at every opportunity.

I would also like to say that I fully understand that yuo put the peson in seperately, and that the rest was from a photo. But why does that mean you have to change the direction of the light source?

Tetsou's shadow is coming toward us, but the buildings have shadows that extend to the right.

This isn't something I would go "oh! that's akira fanart" but it's good nontheless. The figure in the center actually detracts from it, IMO.

I completely agree...you don't deserve to have people like your drawings if you think your pictures are so much better than everyone elses. You are rude and need to be nicer to people who are LEARNING and PRACTICING! Mine aren't perfect and some aren't beautiful, but I enjoy drawing and expressing myself, and I never tell a person that they need to stop drawing or that they can't draw anything right. So don't expect anyone who knows the real you to say anything nice about your drawings.

This is amazing.

I'm keen on background drawings as well,
but this level of detail is out of my league. How long did it take??.
