I recently learned that while stippling is the use of dots of one color to create different shades and highlights, pointalism is the use of different colors to create different hues. I suppose this picture is a little of both considering that I used both different colors to create different hues as well as different spacing between the dots to create different shades of each individual color. Anyhow, this was done for my art class as a concentration piece (meaning I have to do 12 pieces with a theme... mine being stippling/pointalism), and it took 5 weeks on a 24x18 piece of paper with Sharpie fine point 24 colors (although I only used about 18). I've been stippling before I'd ever learned about pixel art, which is why I like pixel art as much as I do now. It's the same concept, only on paper instead of the computer, minus the grid. Ironically, as much as I love to stipple, I've never much cared for Monet's pointalism work when our class was first introduced to it years ago. I don't know why that would be.

Whoa! that is unbelievable. It's so intricate, 5 weeks, it took! You have lots of patience. I love the colour on this, the green and the red go so well together.

Oh, and the reason you don't like Monet... Could it be 'cause he's french?...he-he... **...umm, myself - i've got nothing against the french personally, but for some reason(s), despising them just seems to be a popular trend among many folks right now... ...wonder why...**

heh. i tried stippline once, and the result was not pretty. but i also only used one color. though, i guess using more than one would be much harder...i ought to not try it.

but yours is wonderful.

I love the background and the colors you chose for the turtle. Your work is so amazing! The green on the shell add a waterish algea-like quality. You have a great eye for small details. Keep up the wonderful work!

I totally envy you (in a good way). I never could stand stippling: It takes too much patience, and I sorely lack that for pieces like this. I did the one piece in my art class that was required, but focused my attentions to watercolors after that. This is truly an incredible piece, and I hope that your other efforts turned out as well. Keep it up!

It's really good! I tried to do that once but, I would start counting the dots... loose count... and start over. Needless to say stippling & pointalism aren't my favorite excersizes. Maybe If I was'nt so compulsive

Oh wow, this absolutely remarkable, I can se the pointalism in this so vividly. The dots I'm seeing remind me of that crazy floam stuff with the bubbly-type surface. You've done a reall good job with getting the highlights and coloring done on this. This is what I call superb artistic work. I have dabbled in pointalism myself before with painting a dragon on a large poster board. But mine pointalism can't hold a candle to this. EXCELLENT job, I'd like to see more art like this. Favorites is a deffinate.
