Xavier (the blonde) was alchemist during the Puritan era whose experiments (one which created a clean-burning fuel) got him burnt as a witch. Midknight (the white-haired one) was a Vietnam-era scientist who got into accident that turned him into a vampire so flash forward a hundred years later when he gets killed by a vampire hunter.

The theme in Eternal Champions was that everyone in the game was offered a second chance in life if they could win the championship.
