DeviantArt buddy Greatgreeniguana has been incredibly patient with me. This is her kiriban for capturing my 20k pageview at that site.

The beastie featured here is not an Alien Queen, but an Emperor of GGI's own design.

The color job gave me fits this time. I'm not sure how I went wrong - probably by starting with the grays on the Emperor, rather than the color in the background. I had to go back and forth with the Emperor's cool grays several times to get the value distribution to balance out properly, and when I finished with it, I still wasn't really satisfied. I did some tweaking in Photoshop to balance out the purples and blues in the background, and to bring in more green/yellow on the Emperor to pull him out of the background. That saved it, I hope.

Your colour schemes and shading leave me almost wordless Racheal (well, it would do if I didn't have more i wanted to say). An honestly fantastic picture. Great design and idea, really brings out the majestic idea of a Xenomorph emperor. Great. Just great.

Thanks very much! I really had to work to get this color scheme to smooth out. I actually did quite a bit of adjustment in Photoshop. The original colored pencil drawing is much more grayed out - I was within inches of just scrapping the thing and starting over when I realized that it's the 21st Century and Photoshop fixes *everything*. ^_~

I use Prismacolor pencils to the exclusion of all else these days. I have some Faber Castells that I need to try out, but I'm rather addicted to the soft and squishy lead of Prismacolors, so it's been hard to change over. ^_~
