I got the idea from two calenders I saw sitting together at Borders. I wish I hadn't hurried the background.

Locomotive #2472 is the prize display at the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. This former Southern Pacific P-8 class, 4-6-2 Pacific type, high-speed mainline passenger steam locomotive was originally delivered to Southern Pacific in late May, 1921 and was used to pull the famous Overland Limited train. Later, it saw service in the commuter fleet in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1957, #2472 was retired and donated to the San Mateo County Fairgrounds for static display. In 1976, a group of volunteers pulled together to form called Project 2472 and began a 16 year effort to restore the locomotive to full operating condition. In April, 1991 it made its first run to Sacramento, California to attend Railfair '91. After Railfair, Project 2472 became the Golden Gate Railroad Museum, who continues to keep 2472 in service. |
