Sweet pic, the feathers in particular look nice. That kinda detail would drive me crazy trying to do.
How do you draw in the scales? Do you do the brown lines for them first, and then fill in the colour, or do you do the base colour and draw the scales over it? Or something else entirely? And how do you keep them from blending in with the base colour and just making it darker? Sorry for peppering you with questions, but I can't figure out how to do it..
Dark colors always blend out lighter colors, so as a rule you need to lay the dark colors down first and the lighter tones on top of it. In this case, let's see, I think it was a brown for the scales first, followed by a lighter shades on top of that.
Thank you, I was struggling with it. I think my problem is that I draw things where I want the colours to be as blended as possible, so it's hard to come out of that mode of working to do something like scales where it needs to stay seperated. I appreciate the advice!
