I don't have elements, so I don't know for sure. If you don't see channels in the bar at the top, try going to "windows" or "view" and see if channels is in there.

i looked around in elements, i went in help section and everything and i've discovered that elements doesn't support the channel mode or curves or anything like that.. thanx though, i'll just have to wait untill i can get a full version on my compy

This would be a very useful tutorial for me if not for two things: my scanner is crap and I have an outdated photoshop. However, I was able to remove the lines by playing around with the settings, using your tut as a base. Thanks for this, now that I have created a method that works with my version/scanner I can post some of the sketches from my notebook! *faves*

I never really draw on lined paper XD Not art that I really want to finish through colouring anyways, but I think that your art is great and that the tutorial will definitely help some people!

I use mostly line-less paper, too, but some people on the forums were bitching about not being able to submit stuff on lined paper. If there's an easy way to remove lines it'll hopefully shut them up.

They were Bitching?! wow, thats not a nice way to put it...lol! You must be pretty good to have people assault you continually . I wish I was that good    ^o^    be thankful of that even though its a bother, people actually mind seeking help from you. anyway, good luck shuting them up. (     lol ,dog, thats a funny word!    XD    )

Thanks, this is especially useful to someone like me who always is struck with inspiration when all that is handy is a notebook chalk full of lined paper.

This is one of those artistic "necessities" haha. It's always nice to know these things. Yes, I can picture myself using this quite often. In fact, I have time, I think I'll give it shot now!

Necessary disclaimers for the tutorial to work properly:
1 - You must scan your drawing in color to begin with, otherwise it won't be able to differentiate between the sketch and the notebook lines (both will appear gray).
2 - You must adjust the image's exposure levels properly so that the blue lines have a "Blue" value of 100%, otherwise they won't erase completely.

Took me awhile to figure out exactly how this tutorial worked. I posted a forum topic years ago that utilized the same principle (blue channel) to do the same thing (remove lines), but yours is much better described and polished.

PS: Step 4 is also known as the "Channel to selection" command.
