This is based on Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg's character Death, who is the sister of Dream. This particular incarnation is Didi. Death spends a day every century as a mortal girl so she can appreciate what it is she takes from people so often: life.

I highly recommend the mini series "Death: The High Cost of Living" by Neil Gaiman and Chris Bachalo.
