Five years after the third impact and humanity having been returned to Earth,life has changed for the better for Rei Ayanami(or as she's now known as Rei Shikimori).When nevr and Seele disbanded Rei was placed into foster care and adopted by a very loving and warm family (the Shikimori's).It took awhile but she has become a much more cheerful and outspoken person (though she' has her moments of introspection and is still a vegetarian). She works part time at a Tattoo parlor,(where Hikari,Asuka's one and only best friend,works as the manager).She's hoping to earn enough money to pay for night school so she can become a videogame disigner.She often wonders if what happened was a dream but knows full well it wasn't and still retains much of the knowledge of her past lives.
She's also fully aware that Shinji Ikari is now working part time at a bookstore and is now a female,(well almost a full fledged one anyway),but doesn't seem to mind in the least
