This is Haine Al Alar, a.k.a., Condemned. Stripped from his body, Condemned didn't know what to do. He wandered the world for a century before he found out he could possess people, and feed off their anger and hatred.
Of course, it's hard to find someone who is weak-willed, but strong willed ENOUGH to allow full control for Condemned without the host dying from the pressure.
Dying, or going insane.
Over more and more centeries, Condemned became feared by those who know of him, like psychics, and other creatures of the supernatural.
Most of his hosts consisted of terrosists, insane asylum residents, and tyrants. Almost every one of them died within three years with Condemned.

This is because of the natural toxins that are kept within the dark spirit. When he resides within a host, the toxins are released, causing extreme irritability, depression, insanity, and when COndemned has accomplished full control of the host, memory loss of the moments when COndmned was present.
it's actually quite a miracale that Eclipse is still alive from such long expostion to the toxic gas.
