It's actually the original design and image used (hence why he's the icon, too).
They recently changed the logo to an updated version of him (drawn by...I think Layzcarter, but I'm not sure) lol
Yeah, it's supposed to be since all the other entries were uber-cute (I honestly didn't think this would win).
Although I have to say, your comment seems like it was intended to be more malicious than taken.

But yeah, he's supposed to be real scruffy and crazy looking. Thought it would represent all the crazy kids on FAC here a lot better than the super cute chibi-anime style a couple entries were going for. :P
Errr.... I love Pheral and all, but I tryed to draw him and I can't ><..... errrr... I was gonna enter the logo contest, but i couldn't draw him T___T But I love cats, and Pheral is awesome, as is all your other stuff...

lol now that I look at this pic again it reminds alot of my my cat named Exorcist cuz my room mate decided he would get pay back on my cat since she tore up like some school work of his so he took out his paint and painted like the tip of her tail XD and now the end of her tail is all pointed so we call her scropion lol I have no clue why I shared that bit of info with you I just felt like saying that cuz this pic reminded me of it well once again very kawaii pic you've got here and ja' ne!
Ooh how great! THis would be pretty appropriate for a FAC mascot. The scraggly look makes me think of the tragic artist chiche and the pencil and paint are self explanatory. Wow the fur is just awesome! Oooh i just noticed the incredible paint dripping of the tail! GReat!
That's reeeeally cute! I'm not a fan of cats...I've never owned one, but this, however, could change my mind. Awesome; I love CG's, because it takes added effort, and plus...this is just really great. ...Why aren't you on my fave artist list yet...
