I suppose if you wanted to have something filling up the empty space between the characters then you have succeeded... I don't see anything wrong with either version. I suppose the flowers make the picture seem a little sillier (more annoying to the brooding Leon! LOL) and add to the joke, but it was funny without them, too. Nice work!
