Black Jack was a prominent figure in the funerals of President John F. Kennedy, Herbert Hoover, and Lyndon B. Johnson, among others, serving as the riderless horse that followed the caisson carrying the casket.

[li][font="Google][font="Google][b]Military Service:[/b]
He served for 24 years with The Old Guard, a unit of the U.S. Army, and was one of only two horses in U.S. history to receive full military honors upon his death. 
[/font][/font]

[li][font="Google][font="Google][b]Death and Burial:[/b]
Black Jack died on February 6, 1976, and was cremated. His remains were laid to rest with full military honors in a plot at Fort Myer, Virginia, on Summerall Field.
