Yes, but people can change. They eventually became good friends c:
(Mario is commonly known as a very nice guy these days, but his treatment of dk was rather poor in dk jr. Perhaps they both took lessons in kindness)

i am aware an 80s cartoon existed but i never seen it or know much about it. i remember watching the 1989 cartoon though, which was based on super mario bros 1 and 2. ^^

ah yeh and Fridays were legend of zelda they even had zelda captain N crossover
