Emeth, from The Last Battle.
The character isn't a particular favorite of mine, but he came up in my mind yesterday because somebody was talking about the word which gave him his name... I'd heard somewhere before that "Emeth" meant "faith" in Hebrew, but I hadn't heard that it's not like the abstract, belief-type faith. It's steadfastness, trustworthiness. For example, the word has been used to describe doorposts.
And I thought about this guy--this young Calormen who sought what he did not find, and found what he did not think he was seeking, but who still held on to sanity when all the world around him was going mad.

Even though this picture is small and simply sketched, the poses, shading, and clouds even tell a story of their own! Is the boy(man?) a monk? I have never heard of this book!
It's the last of the Narnias, actually.
