"Disturbed as if out of some gloating dream by his small yell she turned slowlythe dreadful malice of her glance upon him. But almost before she was aware that a fury was upon her greater than any she had known in countless years, the shining sword bit upon her foot and shore away the claw. Sam sprang in, inside the arches of her legs, and with a quick upthrust of his other hand stabbed at the clustered eyes upon her lowered head. One great eye went dark.<br />

Now the miserable creature was right under her, for the moment out of the reach of her sting and of her claws. Her vast belly was above him with its putrid light, and the stench of it almost smote him down. Still his fury held for one more blow, and before she could sink upon him, smothering him and all his little impudence of courage, he slashed the bright elven-blade across her with desparate strength."<br />

This is my audition for a mural at my school...it was due today so I couldn't fix it up to look REALLY nice...but I kinda like it. I don't know about the background...too much green...

yah art honors students get to paint over the boarded up lockers! woo! My school's cheap!Anyways yah the lighting was supposed to represent that glow that she had on her underside. I liked it too, I just didn't get a lot of time to work on it... This is acrylic on newsboard...um yah everyone says my paintings look like watercolor. good guess though! And to answer the last question I never won. I got a total of 18 votes (out of 48 or so). I'm either not that popular or they're all radical Harry Potter fans... well it was fun anyways. thanks for commenting!

They're letting students do a mural at your school? Neato =) I would think that the arachnaphobic teachers would outnumber the ones who don't mind spiders, lol. I love that part of the book. Sam is so brave ^.^ not at all like Melkor and Ungoliant, but meh- she was a bigger spider ;) I personally like the background =)
