We Are The Night

O_O You have made my day. My entire sad little universe has sprouted happy flowers that are skipping about my head! (My bad day is brightened! Yaaaaay!!) This is fabulous! The detail is beautiful!! I always adore your brickwork! The graffiti! It ROCKS! (G was there!!!)The wanted posters...abandoned newspapers....all of the little background details....GORGEOUS. The textures and expressions are great. They're all clearly different identities, and it's a casual group shot with seriousness as well. Batman looks so Gangster. XD

what gave you the idea to re-invent the characters like this?

I was asked that a day or so ago and it really stumped me. But I think it was a mix of stuff all at once. The past couple of weeks I've had a huge urge to geek out on some comic book fanart, but I could never think of a subject that interested me. I was trying to get some sort of Batman idea going, just because I love the characters so much. I toyed with the idea of doing a group shot of all of them, but in their proper costumes. I came close to doing that, but then it hit me that redesigning them might be more fun. I always love to see people completely redesign established characters, so that idea is constantly in my mind. I started with Robin, thought of how I might do it and then when I came up with the idea of making him look street, I just followed that on with the others. Once I had Robin, Nightwing and Batman...I had to do it.

Overload.

I was very protective of this drawing. I probably still am a bit. Because, well...it's Batman XD and because I really did try to do something good on this one. I didn't know it would hold the power to blow minds O_O But I'll take it. XD
