Lentil: Knavey? Are you...alive? Irk, mom's gonna' kill me...

This is a scene from Knave's Smeethood. His older brother, Lentil, loved Knave like any brother should, but he was always causing problems for Knave and just being an all-time troublemaker. Their parents never could decide what to do with him because Knave's family was rather dysfunctional. His father believed in corporal punishment while his mom was strictly against that. They argued constantly until they got divorced one day. Not long after, they decided to get back together for who knows what reason and Knave was eventually born. Lentil was obviously jealous, but got over it eventually.

Being the idiot he was, Lentil thought it would be fun for Knave to play in the prototype Smeet cruiser their father had warned them not to mess with. It was meant as a toy for Knave when he got a little older, but had many flaws in the design so it was quite dangerous. Lentil convinced Knave that it was safe (even at the early age of 3, Knave was very matter-of-fact) and let him go for it, not even bothering to show him how to use the controls. Thus, Knave ending up crashing as shown here.

Don't worry...Lentil finally came to his senses and got his brother out before the thing completely exploded. Unfortunately, Knave was in a comatose state for a while and the crash caused him to lose some memories. More importantly than that, the part of the brain that controls emotions got damaged so Knave lacks many emotions. He can get annoyed, frustrated, excited, happy (hard to tell sometimes), upset (can't cry though), but it's impossible for him to become angry. Because of this, he never once was mad at Lentil for the crash. As for Lentil, he originally fixed the story so it'd look like it was Knave's fault. Of course, his parents didn't buy that. After years of guilt and death glares from his parents, Lentil ran away and made a new life somewhere else, eventually getting a job and getting married.

Knave joined Charlie's squad in the military when he was older because he had a love of weapons and technology and wanted to put it to good use. Strangely enough, he gets a thrill from seeing things explode.

Self-Critique

I told my scanner that it owed me one for mauling my last pic, so I'm glad to say it came through this time. I love this picture.The colors are just...and the shading...and the glowing of the fire on the cruiser, and the bush, and the grass, and Lentil...gah... ^_^ I am mostly proud of the shading. Took a while to get it just right. I wanted to make it more technically right than usual, actually considering the time of day and light source. In a way, I'm still unsure what time of day it is, so I'd like to say it's a mix between late afternoon and evening-ish. The fire was really fun to draw. I'm hoping it looks somewhat natural. I know the size comparison is weird, but the crusier is supposed to be Smeet-sized after all. And yes, that is oil coming from the cruiser. Don't know if Irkens would really use that, but I felt like doing it so there you go.
