Sparks is yelling at me because I've been slacking off lately...instead of pictures, I've been making stories.
I've just hit a ditch with my artwork.....a big ditch...
I've been looking around DA and FAC and I'm...starting to question my artistic talent. When I look at some artwork, I feel like the art that I've been submitting is...poor...like a doodle you make on notebook paper. Way back when I was first starting, I avoided the DA like the plague because of that.
If I may, let me list off just a few things that I am having trouble with just Sparks alone:
1. Sparks, naturally, is an anthromorphic creature. So his body is somewhat different than a humans, his facial features are different (eyes and muzzle mainly), his spikes are wavey and slicked down, two short ones on top of two long ones, and he has some skinny limbs...these often create problems in certain poses.
2. I have problems posing Sparks, in fact, he's one chaotic character to have just standing, asking him to sit down on the floor or create a small walking .gif for is impossible! DX
3. I cannot do things like tears or blood running from the body....they look like paint, to be honest.
4. The last problem I have is...facial expressions and hands. I can not, for the life of me, make very many facial expressions...have you ever noticed that often enough, they don't have mouths? Or thin lines or small smiles? That's about it for me, besides a frown.
I need tutorials....or a 3-D program that I can make Sparks in so he's all together...I'm going to sit down in RL, and start drawing Sparks one piece at a time...*kind of upset*
Sparks: Okay, she's done ranting about her artwork. Post some comments...maybe give her links for tutorials? She's scary when she's like this....o.o

whadda ya talkin about!? that exxpression on Sparks face right now is great, Emo. i have a hard time giving expressions too, i just the muzzle plain without a mouth. i draw a simple sonic character except what comes into my head. your good at this stuff, see?i can only draw bunnies, but you the robot artist around here!and-holds up a wine glass of apple cider-cheers to you and cheers to a happy new year!-glass clang-kittyshootingstar on December 31, 2007, 3:40:37 AM
I alctually think your art is pretty good. You have your own style, I could never even draw some of your chars they way you do! And everyone has doubts about their art, even me! I am always wishing I could improve. I suggest drawing like a model for the pose first, like one of those manniquens that people use. Then, after you have the pose sketched, add the details of the char. That's what I do. And don't worry if you have t ofudge the proportions a little to get it too look right, chances are, unless you point it out, You're the only one who will notice.As for facial expressions, I tend to keep them simple. I'm good at doing grins and such, so if you want I could make a little reference sheet for you on some basic expressions.
With hands, use your own as a reference. Again, sketch it out, then add the specific detailings of the character.
As for tears and blood, I stink at them too, so I'm not sure what advice I can give there.
