I drew this picture last night and it was another one where I actually liked how it turned out the next morning. It also happens to be one of the few pictures that has a background!<br />
<br><br />
On board the H.M.S. Surprise, Stephen Maturin teaches Barrett Bonden how to read and write. Stephen writes a word down on the slate, gives it to Barrett, and leaves it for him to figure it out. Today they are studying animals-- thus Barrett's cheatsheet ;) . In the book H.M.S. Surprise by Patrick O'Brian (do read them if you liked the movie- they are excellent) it says that one of Barrett's favorite things to do is write out the verses that Stephen recites to him aloud-- rhymes and such =D. Isn't that nice? <br />

I had a lot of trouble with Stephen's pose and I hope it came out all right. His left hand made me want to die-- and just out of spite: I hate his hat! =/<br />
