I came across a Brazilian website (Romance Dawn)that listed the various Mermen (Gyojin) and the types of fish they are apparently based on . Chuu was listed as Kisu no Gyojin, a gar fish man.
If you've never seen a gar before, they are long, slender fish with bony scales, a long, pointed mouth and lots of sharp teeth.They can grow to be VERY big.
Living in Florida, near several rivers and lakes, I've seen a few gar before...

If you're wondering what Ptciu is, it's the name I found Chuu under on several Italian sites..
