Ener...I've seen his name written as Enel in some translations, which makes more sense. "El" is an ancient word meaning "god" or "lord", (As in "Bethel" ""House of God"".). "En" I'm not sure about En, but I believe it means "The"...so his name would translate as "The god", which he's not...he's an arrogant prettyboy with lightning powers who thinks he's god.
Wilkipedia says "Enel" may be from "Enlil" the Mesopotamian sky god, which is also likely.
He does have cool ears though, some tribal peoples today still stretch their earlobes like that.
