"Chizpurfles are small parasites up to a twentieth of an inch high, crablike in appearance...they are attracted to magic and may infest the fur and feathers of such creatures as Crups and Augureys."<br />

Chizpurfles are also attracted to anything magical, and are known to gnaw at wands in attempt to get at the magical core within, or else gorge upon lingering drops of potion in the bottoms of cauldron. In the absense of magic, however, the Chizpurfle will attack Muggle electronic objects, and these types of infestations usually explain the puzzling failure of many new Muggle electrical artifacts.
