Understanding I have no background with this character, I'm just curious because of the fleur-de-lis (sp?), does he have any affiliation with France?

Mot that I'm aware of. I used to do quite a bit of character drawing requests for Dungeons and Dragons and games along those lines. From what I can recall this character was a Fetchling (shadow creature) Magus (magic fighter) and the fleur-de-lis was his guild's crest. I'm not really sure if there was any real world tie in with it, sorry. :X

Alrighty. :) I mean, it is a bit altered from the original form, that's just the first place my brain goes when I see the fleur because historically it was used by French royalty. ^_^
