We have a monster in our folklore called Strzyga http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strzyga or Striga http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Striga , those were said to be active during the night.

Your painting reminds me such creature. :)

All these creepy creatures are mostly active during the night.

They return to hide in their miasmic and fetid den at the crack of dawn. :)
