They look like mackarels that are slightly grilled, but maybe it's just because of the vertical black lines on their sides :)

Fish is a very healthy food! 

Japanese are said to have  such long lifespans due to amount of fishes they consume. It's quite possible Omega-3 acids benefit their health.


As for your painting, it's lovely as usual - those fishes on plate look like mackerels, though I can't tell if that's the species. ;)

I tried to create an interesting composition using only what is called "coloured greys".  

that's cool. you did a good job. I'd like to do actual learning experiments like that, I hope I get my life organized enough soon that I will be able to really work on learning this sort of things.
