Gift for my pen friend from Kingstree, South Carolina, who has his birthday tomorrow. As we arranged, I drew him wearing scale armor with chainmail parts, kettle helmet, leather boots and matching gloves standing near a lake in forest area. According to the request, he is wielding three-spike spetum and gladius sword.

Happy birthday buddy !

TeeJay87He did, though I wasn't sure if the armor looked convincing enough.

Teal666Custom brushes tend to do the trick for many artists I know. A nice circle pattern brush works pretty okay!

TeeJay87Typical chain mail isn't demanding to depict, since it's basically a mesh made of small metal circles joined together. Some time ago I've made a blank texture for it and it looks more or less convincing:
- both as part of plate armor http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/TeeJay87/848919/Feline-Warrior-Delilah
- and as complete set of chain mail http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/TeeJay87/843020/Pass-of-Reckless-Ogre & http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/TeeJay87/844267/Pass-of-Reckless-Ogre-II-Kids-These-Days

Scale armor requires more effort - it's a bit difficult to place those scales as they should look.

Here's what I usually do when I work with scale armor (or things with a pattern). Adding a grid at the beginning really helps map out everything.

TeeJay87The scale armor I drew could have looked better, but thanks anyway.

Nice work, I'm especially fond of the background and colors...

TeeJay87Kindly thank you, the background wasn't that difficult to be drawn. Much more demanding was the pattern for scale armor - I'm still not fully convinced about the way it looks...

TeeJay87Thanks, the most difficult part was the scale armour the recipient asked me to draw. I have to admit, the scenery was less demanding to be depicted. ;)

SaltwaterThe armour is well done;
now you have got some experience in such things.  :-)
