This WIP of supposed to illustrate the main issue I have every time, when I depict Penelope and Mona as twin sisters - making their facial features resembling each other. The idea comes from the times I started drawing those characters (around 2001), especially since both kitties have much in common in the cartoon:

- the most visible similarity is en face - compare Penny with Mona & - apart from differently combed hair, pupil, fur & lipstick colors and reversed placements of moles, their basic head shapes are identical;

- they smile the same way &

- another set of examples &

- more evidence can be found in their galleries on Garfield Wiki &

As you can see, the similarities between both Pussycats are so evident, that they would easily pass as whole sisters. Sure, I could draw them as they look in "Garfield and Friends" (Penny with her staple quadrupedal animal body and Mona as she appears in her episode), though I believe drawing them under single standard (humanoid body, blue eyes and adjusted details) counts both as improving the original design and making them differ enough from their cartoon appearances.

Even if the adjusting their facial features might be a hassle, graphic programs like Adobe Photoshop allow handling this issue without too great effort - jigs like the ones in the picture simplify the process and it basically takes maybe 5 minutes in making sure Penny and Mona look as they should. It had been much more demanding, when I was drawing them manually.

Mona and Penelope Pussycat belong to PAWS Inc.

TeeJay87Have to admit, I've been drawing those two since at least 2000, initially following their TV appearances. Around 2009 both got humanoid bodies, which had standardized shapes in 2012.

As for the final version, I'm still working on it, but here is beta

TeeJay87I don't recall any statement from Jim or PAWS Inc. testifying that, but people also notice the similarities . After all, both are blondes (agreed that different tones, but still) and both have much in common with Italian cuisine - Penny lives in Momma's Italian restaurant and Mona cooks those meals herself.

Thus nobody said, that the similarities couldn't be deepened. ;)
