Lase - A little help?

Ok, so I never do this, but I need a bit of help, or at least a shove in the right direction. The image above was a sketch I was working on (don't mind the sloppiness) and I came across the big problem I always come across with trying to draw a character with relatively humanistic proportions. The torso.

Specifically, the worst part for me that I can never get right is how the neck, body, and shoulders area connects. As you might notice the shoulders, arms, and top of the chest don't really have any good structure because I can't just figure it out. I have tried a few tutorials with little luck, I don't know why, I just can't seem to get it right. The rest of the torso needs work as well, though I can sorta muddle through it so it looks somewhat acceptable, but the big part that keeps getting me is the top as mentioned.

So... is there anyone out there that can help me out, give some advice? Or even just turn me around and point me towards someone who might be able to?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help offered. If you don't offer any, um, I guess enjoy the scribbles and exclamations of frustration? :P
