Brave enough

America's great and all... but sometimes society really bugs me.
How we are right now reminds me of how we were in the sixties, only with less hippies. Back then it was still widely acceptable to use the word "nigger" when referring to an African American. That's no longer okay, but now we've found a whole NEW group of people to hate, haven't we?
I'm bringing this up now because several days ago, when browsing through my favorites list, I came across the profile of a very talented artist. I won't tell you his name, because I would rather not cause a fight. But this is what really got to me:

I don't do: HENTAI, Comics, PROMOTION OF DRUGS, SEX, DYKE's, VAMP's, FAGS,

Until recently, I thought America was better than this. I only learned the cruel truth last year. It's not like I don't hear... that word... used every day, but it bothers me how many people act like society can't function correctly without deragatory terms and hatred. I am deeply disappointed. When will people stop fearing what is different?
Well, I read that little excerpt up there, and a raging fire of anger immediately sparked within me and I could not douse it. I had to draw this picture, as quickly as possible, my artistic urges drove me to do so. Since I rushed, and started experimenting with markers without practicing first, this is truly not the best I can do, and for that, I apologize. But I didn't create this to make a pretty picture, I made it to make a statement. I just hope people listen, instead of closing their minds, putting their fingers in their ears, and yelling LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG LA LA LA.
So, I drew myself, my boyfriend (that's right, I'm straight, and I support homosexuality, try to grasp that concept) and an assortment of other couples fighting for equality, just as oppressed people have been doing for years. And when homosexuals gain their rights, as, given time, they inevitably will, who knows who will be the next victims?

Don't give up, guys. This war is ours.
