It's Uncle Taki with his wife, Auntie Lenke from the Hungarian television series Szomszédok (Neighbours), who was a taxi driver according to the story. He drives his Lada 2105 in the streets of Gazdagrét (located in the 11th district of Budapest), where the story is set in.

About the car: the 2105 was introduced in 1980 in the Soviet Union, and its production ceased at the end of 2010. It was a restyled version of the model 2101, and also exist estate (2104) and deluxe (2107) versions developped from it (moreover, the last two models are still in production, but they plan to replace them with the upcoming Granta model).
Mechanically it was identical to the older 2101 model, however, in 1992, they equipped the engine with single point fuel injection and catalytic converters.
In the Western market it was known as Riva, and surprisingly got to be popular in the United Kingdom, where it was one of the most popular low-budget cars. However, it could be found in other countries as well. In Eastern Europe, still many people have at least one of the three models, because it's easy to get spare parts to it and easy to repair.

Hope you like it :D (At least I do, because it's one of my favourite cars)

alitta2Yes, I've known that these cars were exported to Trinidad and to some other countries in its neighbourhood. Are they still available on the market in your homeland?
Just because I've recently heard that they have finished the production of 2107, the last of the so called cube-Ladas, and their car dealers had already filed out from most countries where they were exported (for example, in my homeland, their turnover company was abolished around 2005-6).

WH2007Cool old taxi! I'm just back from my vacation in Mezőkövesd so I've seen a lot of such cars there. Even the oldest models are in use and any of them is rusty. I've seen some of them with racing liveries and huge wings.

alitta2Thanks! Yeah, these cars still can be found on our roads, but their prestige falls off by time because of modern cars, and the superstition that these cars are used by scavengers XD
However, here in Hungary, the 2107 model got the nickname "parasztmerci" (Mercedes of peasants) thanks to its front grille, which resembles to older Mercedes models such as W123. The other two were simply called "kockalada" (cube Lada).BTW, hope you've enjoyed your vacation here in my home country :D

WH2007My uncle had the one with the big chrome grille. He personally went to Russia to buy it.

Thanks, my vacations were really cool. I was at the thermal baths and I've visited Eger and Miskolc. Too bad I got sick at the end of my stay XD
