Nice to see the story developing. :)

Though dismounting the magazine from the rifle isn't the best idea in such an unsafe place, least in my opinion.

Yes, it's indeed not safe to carry the rifle without the magazine, but in such situation, this is still the best option to somehow carry the gun with themselves.
At least when they take off from the bike, Monique can give the mag back to Mary, so she can load the rifle :)
