I assume the chain with the pikehead is supposed to be a weapon, not just a decoration, right?

Thank you! Yes, that's correct! The chain with the circle is used for defense, and the chain with the rhombus is used for the attack!

And those horns on helmet look familiar, I've seen similar decorations in other anime series.

Several characters of Saint Seiya have helmet with horns, but in different formats. Another anime character who has a similar helmet is Bleach Ukiorra.
