Yeaaaa.
So me and a couple of friends were talking today as we were watching the Pokemon Movie Marathon (yarp! we're all 16ish! lol!). Anyway. We decided that Ash's pikachu has to be level 5,000,006. SIMPLY for the reason that Dialga and Palkia were battling Arceus and LOSING, and Pikachu used thunderbolt and successfully stopped Arceus in its tracks.
Plus, Pikachu and Ash have gone thru' about 48 gyms. Kanto Region, Johto Region, Indigo Islands, Orange Islands, Sinnoh Region, Hoenn Region. That's about 8 badges to gather in each region, so figure 6x8. 48. And if you notice, each time Pikachu attempts to battle a new gym or gym leader, it has a hard time doing it. So if the FIRST region they got to (Kanto), had the 8th bedge being lvl 40-ish, it is only natural that each time they go up in level.
So how does Pikachu manage to do this? IT LEVELS UP. :D
