Pokemon Zenshou was a manga released in Japan. The art quality was horrible but it had quite an extensive storyline. It got into details of the game and into things about the characters the other series ignored. Shigeru was also a main character. But the art was painful.sexay on December 16, 2006, 3:19:47 PM

Well they don't like to tell us that. The only version with any information is Pokemon Zenshou. Basically in Pokemon Zenshou, Professor Oak is out researching when someone tells him that his son and daughter-in-law were in a terrible car accident and died. He was asked to take custody of Gary and Daisy. So Gary was raised by Prof. Oak.
They didn't get into it in the show or in the more propular manga. (which is my favorite like OMG) I assume they wanted to keep it light and to avoid backstories. The whole concept of orphaned children is a touchy subject. Plus, they liked downplaying Gary as a character.
