'I couldn't help it that day. I was so nervous, and everyone was right there. I hadn't even spoken my first word. Not even as a baby had I said anything, I guessed. I mean, my parents did say I was quiet for a baby. No, I knew english. I do. I would talk if I could stop remembering that day. The day that Judas left the commune. The day I didn't have a big brother figure anymore. The day I decided to speak my mind. Besides the words "Yes" and "No". Plus, it was about time the rumors stop going around that I was a disabled child. That I simply could not talk. That was a lie. I just found it useless to talk. I still do till' this very minute. This moment, too. And this one, after the last. I'll never find a use for words. Never. Luna Maye and Oxy and all them know that my words come through the music I play on my violin. That's my language. They understood that good'n well. But when I finally told everyone else that, they just laughed. Laughed, and laughed... I don't know 'bout you, but I don't like people doting on me like I'm a kid. 'Course I'm twelve now. I'm almost grown, but even back then I thought I was big stuff...

BASICALLY, she's talking about the day her big brother figure, Judas, left her at the commune when his family moved out. She tried to tell everyone how she felt, but since she was underdeveloped in speech, as a disablilty, it came out a bit funny and everyone laughed. This is the way she sees it. She thinks they just didn't understand what she meant, when she said it entirely wrong.
