PLEASE, BEFORE YOU GO MINDLESSLY FAVING, BE SURE TO LEAVE FEEDBACK ON THIS. I'M TRYING TO LEARN TABLET DRAWING IN GIMP AND CLIP STUDIO AND I WANT TO IMPROVE ON HOW I DO IT FOR FUTURE DRAWINGS!
This was an adopted OC originally sold by @LilacPhoenix a long time ago, bought for me by @GoldLinaric, who I never got around to creating anything with beyond the sketch of this and her alternate outfit. So I chose to give her a try with my tablet and Clip Studio Paint. Needless to say, linearting was a lot less mentally painful, with the right stabilization settings, but figuring out base color and shading was a massive chore! Not only that, but certain functions like resizing, cropping, and other effects aren't possible with Clip Studio. A lot of it is making me question if I can make this method work or if I should try something else, or if it's not worth giving up my old pathing method in Gimp. (Yeah it's cleaner lines but it's super tedious to do it all even for simpler designs) I actually forgot to add highlights to her hair and ended up doing it in Gimp anyway.
So what I did was in Clip Studio, I did the lineart on a vector layer, and using that layer as a reference layer, colored on a raster layer underneath, and after creating the shading layer, used a Fill option called "Close and fill" with a Target Color setting at "Area surrounded by black". I also clipped the shading layer to the color layer so no blank areas outside the color would be included when shading. I found that out after shading this one so you'll see it in the other picture.
I don't know when I plan to draw her in the dancer outfit that she was originally designed in. Maybe in the future, depending on if I plan to get more involved with my OCs again.
