In season 3 the crew comes across Trelium-D something to enhance their hull plating... But when Vulcans come in contact with it it brakes down their nerves-system.

T'pol got exposed to the Trelium on a Vulcan ship and from then on she's been taking doses of the stuff because she believed it helped her experience emotions.
