Chapter 1 - Nicholas' Lament
I find no rapure in screams
My pow’rs seem
An untappable spring
Unreach’d.
I doubt I shall ever reach
This well which
My reflection seems
To draw upon so effortlessly.
Nay, my power lies instead herein
In pretty words and verse
Sweet poetry my terror
Dreams of fancy my screams.
And yet—
And yet I’d die to have the joy
That terror seems to bring my mirror
My dreams do not drift thusly
But I would want—nay, need—
The fear that I was given life to inflict.
Ah, me
My pow’rs seem
An untappable spring
Unreach’d.
I doubt I shall ever reach
This well which
My reflection seems
To draw upon so effortlessly.
Nay, my power lies instead herein
In pretty words and verse
Sweet poetry my terror
Dreams of fancy my screams.
And yet—
And yet I’d die to have the joy
That terror seems to bring my mirror
My dreams do not drift thusly
But I would want—nay, need—
The fear that I was given life to inflict.
Ah, me
