automail was invented from a form of alchemy, so its natural that we dont have it coz instead of going down the alchemic route we went down the chemistry route. ^^ though some automail mechanics use wires instead of metal ports for the nerve cells to connect, therefor it is more stronger. well thats my theory anyway. BUT we DO have mechanical arms, except they are slightly slower to respond compared to normal flesh and blood.
