Rainbow is a yellow echidna with multi-colored quills and blue eyes. She wears a green dress with a red ribbon tied around her neck, and orange shoes. Her quills are blue, red, green and pink, from front to back.

Orphaned at a young age, Rainbow has lived in a hidden echidna city buried underneath Station Square, a ruin long forgotten by the world at large. Punchy arrived in these ruins early in his search for the missing Master Emerald, and after saving Rainbow from a rampaging robot, the pair have been near-inseparable ever since. Their bond became so strong that Rainbow was able to get through to Punchy after he'd transformed into Dark Punchy later on.

Rainbow is a bright and cheerful girl who insists on calling everyone she meets by nickname. For the experiments, she keeps it simple by simply using their numbers (once she knows them).

In GeneX - Knuckles the Echidna, Rainbow finds her long-lost sister, Violet, who is working with the Covenant of Despair. Rainbow continually tries to catch up to and reason with her, but so far it seems to be doing nothing but creating a rift between her and Punchy...

Rainbow makes minor appearances in most other GeneX stories. Her cheerful personality is a bright counterpoint to the serious nature of the experiments that often serve as the main protagonists.

Author Commentary!

Another character that started as a sprite experiment! Although, this one was more deliberate.

Rainbow is a character that still needs work, in my opinion... I don't feel like she's much more than a bag of nicknames. Giving her some focus in "Knuckles the Echidna" is part of my attempt to develop her character. In GeneX Generations, I prepared to take Rainbow's story further by showing a hint of power hidden inside her, which Mephiles borrowed from her.

I need to work on my female characters, and I will be working on it. There should be more to talk about here, but I really can't think of anything. If I do such an article for Rainbow again, hopefully there will be more to talk about.
