The fastest thing alive, Sonic the Hedgehog of the GeneX series has been through all the same adventures as his video game counterpart, and then some. Even the video game events that have not been explored in the stories are assumed to have happened.

His GeneX adventures begin after the events of Shadow the Hedgehog and before the events of GeneX - Tails the Fox, when Bucky kidnaps Tails to complete Experiment 2. Noticing his friend has gone missing, Sonic searches him out and finds his way to Bucky's lab, doing battle with the scientist and his new creation. The arrival of Sgt. Gunner interrupts the battle, and Sonic believes that with the arrest of Bucky, the ordeal is over.

However, after Metal Sonic frees Experiment 2 from prison, Gunner uses the blurry surveillance footage as an excuse to call for Sonic's arrest! This begins Sonic on a mission to stop Eggman while fending off GUN and even Shadow, who has also been misled by Gunner. Ultimately, it is Tails who saves the day as Bucky's most powerful experiment is unleashed.

In GeneX - Soleanna Struggle, Sonic's role is much the same as in Sonic 06, but with an extended ending. Sonic is there when the new timeline's Mephiles fuses with Heather, becoming Solenix. Fortunately, Bucky figured out the danger quickly, and brought the Chaos Emeralds in time for Sonic to join the fight once more as Super Sonic.

Sonic battles the forces of Dr. Eggman and the Covenant of Despair in GeneX - Knuckles the Echidna. Later in the story, GUN becomes a problem as well, and Sonic races to stop Gunner's GXterminate doomsday weapon.

GeneX Generations sees Sonic once again reprise his role from a video game, with minor updates, including interactions with the GeneX cast and a more combined version of the 3DS and console storylines. Classic Sonic remains speechless throughout, of course. By the end, Mephiles, who was not destroyed at the end of Soleanna Struggle, absorbs Time Eater's power and gains complete control over time. To defeat him, Sonic must ultimately become Hyper Sonic with the help of Copter and his time-travel duplicate, Dimentime.

The blue blur never sits still for long. He'll be speeding back into GeneX with more adventures before you know it!

Author Commentary!

Happy Birthday, Sonic! At least, I intend to post this on Sonic's birthday at the time of writing (you didn't think I wrote these directly into the site, did you?).

Sonic is a hard character to pin down. He's one of the least consistant characters in his own series, with his personality seeming to shift drastically with both writers and voice actors; any minute change to Sonic Team seems to alter his persona slightly.
As a result of my frustration in that regard, I have begun trying to find my own "GeneX Sonic" as I write, so that his personality can seem more consistant. But I can't help occasionally channelling a TV show or video game version of him that I've seen/played recently. The same applies to Eggman. Aw, I never did an Eggman article... Do we really need one? It's just that I'm winding these things down, this was originally meant to be the finale of World of GeneX.

Sonic Boom really hurts my characterization efforts. I need to watch Sonic X or something to balance my mind. Too bad my Sonic X recordings are *shudders* VHS. Made on an old analog TV, even... I wonder if they'll even play anymore.

It's also pretty hard to write him in combat/exploration scenarios because it feels to me like... Sonic is way OP. If I totally unleash him, where's the drama? He'll just speed and jump about, knocking everyone out before they can even react. So to create drama, I often feel like I'm draining too much of his power away. I gotta try to find the right balance as I head for the next major(30+ chapter) story...as that one is actually SUPPOSED to focus on Sonic.
Speaking of which, I'm not sure I want to drag that one all the way to 50 chapters like the others. Knuckles was a nightmarish cycle of development hell. Don't wanna go through that again. Well, guess we'll see...

I could talk about Sonic all year. I better just stop myself here before I go too far. Happy 24th, Sonic!
