The topic I will be rambling about today is unicorn magic. I see magic as being closely linked to emotions because of the whole friendship is magic concept and Cadance also using love to power her magic. Borrowing a concept from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as females are generally more emotional, they would have a greater amount of natural raw magical power.

I think that details such as knowledge affect magical power. Thus all else aside, a studious unicorn (and we all know Starswirl was a total geek) would have the opportunity to develop their magical power well beyond that of a unicorn who is not very studious (like Snips and Snails, they don't give me the impression of being too bright).

I believe a big imagination and artistic tendencies would also be useful in the magical development of a unicorn. Twilight obviously has the most magical power out of the mane six, being so studious and all. But Rarity, a designer, thus an artist, I believe has the most dexterity and precision.

Rarity may not have the raw strength of Twilight's magic to levitate big heavy objects (think about the ursa minor battle), but I think Twilight would have a pretty hard time levitating a multitude of fabric rolls, threads and concept drawings around her simultaneously while trying to guide a needle to sew in a straight line. This is not simply because fashion isn't her talent as magic is, but because of the part about it involving multiple small items. Just think about how Twilight put the ursa to sleep and picture her in the episode where Trixie returns, trying to make the animals levitate. They were smaller, lighter, but there were many of them.

Thus I conclude that magical strength and magical dexterity are two different aspects. Plus I theorize that magical strength can be improved by increasing one's knowledge and magical dexterity can be improved by increasing creativity (by participating in a form of art).
