I didn't post any spoilers on Twitter, but I am about to post them here. First a recap, I'll warn you when we get to the spoilery part. Amnesia is one of those otome where you're locked in path from the start. You don't get to interact with the bishonen before you can pick one, like you can in Hakuoki, Sweet Fuse and Hatoful. In other words, the game doesn't determine what guy you date based on your answers, you just pick one, which isn't as fun. I looked at some info online but I didn't get a clear idea about the guys' personalities and decided to try the one that appeared to be the cutest at a glance (IMO) Toma aka Mr. Diamond.

Before I go any further, I must also note that the art is gorgeous and the main lady's spirit boy companion, Orion is absolutely adorable and super funny. Orion is my favorite character so far, with Kent (Mr. Clover) in second, though Orion is not one of the game's options (he looks too young), he's more the honorary little brother type.

Here's where I start talking about their personalities. I don't consider it spoilery, but this is a warning in case you want to get to know them on your own. Toma is very overprotective and insistent when it comes to taking care of the main lady, a bit too insistent. He quickly overwhelmed me and for the first time I quit a route before I was done. In otomes, I usually play all the routes (unless I need to buy them separately) but if they're all there, I play them all. So I decided to save so I may continue Mr. Diamond's route later and played with Mr. Clover.

Before I go on about Mr. Clover, I'll talk about the other two which I began after I finished Clover. Shin aka Mr. Heart is kind of a jerk at first, though he will likely change his attitude as the game progresses (maybe) I decided to ditch him after he refused to let the main lady sleep in, he just seemed to nosy and pushy. I tried out Ikkyu aka Mr. Spade but he feels like too much of a cliche flirt and is too overly romantic. I tired of him quickly too. I do plan on finishing all the routes, but for the first time I actually lack motivation to go for any character other than my favorite, even though I'm usually motivated to see more routes.

In Hakuoki I like Saito best, but I enjoyed the routes for the other Shinsengumi as well. In Sweet Fuse I only really Subaru and Ryuusei, but still that's at least more than one. I'll still finish the whole game of Amnesia and blog about it, but for now, I'll talk about Kent, aka Mr. Clover. This is where the spoilers get heavier, but it's not the big reveal yet, I'll give another warning before that. Mr. Clover has a cool and collected personality. Though he starts out defensive, it is hinted that there was an argument going on before the main lady lost her memories, thus he had a reason to display some hostility and he even points out that the main girl had done the same in the past, though she doesn't recall. Of course, none of the guys know about her amnesia initially as she tried to piece things together with the help of the spirit Orion.

Mr. Clover eventually opens up when, due to her amnesia, the main lady plays along to get information out of him and presents him with no arguments. After she in a sense by accident waved the white flag, he ended up following along and their relationship took a turn for the better with the past tensions forgotten. Here is where the spoilers get big, I'm about to talk about the big reveal. The way they talk about it, it feels huge. I theorized that maybe Kent hurt Mine's (a coworker and friend of the main girl) feelings somehow and the main girl ended up interpreting it as worse than it was. My theory was that they started dating so the main girl could get back at Kent to avenge Mine, even if not all the pieces fit right away. My theory was wrong.

The real past was very anti-climatic. It involved Kent witnessing the death of the main lady's dog. It was in no way his fault, he only saw the accident happen and hurried to help. He later gave the main girl some advice instead of comfort and she blew up at him. Kent is caring but not emotional (just how I like them, emotional people drain my patient). Kent does what I wish people would do for me in any situation of need, don't comfort me, help me, don't be supportive, be useful. I know I'll be ok and you don't need to convince me of that, just help me fix the mess instead of stating that it can be fixed.

The main girl's unfairly emotional reaction broke my immersion because it clashed so much with how I would handle the situation. Kent was truthful and pointed out that she should have gotten a better leash and taken better care of the dog, but the main girl yelled her hatred towards him as if he had killed it, when it fact he he immediately rushed in to help. He convinced the stranger who had hit it to provide them with transportation (though it was not his fault either, as the dog had bolted into the middle of the road without warning when the leash broke) and took the dog to the vet while the main lady just panicked like an idiot. In the end, the dog died, but if he had been saved it wouldn't have been because of the girl, it would have been only thanks to Kent staying calm and properly handling the situation in the best way possible.

What was disappointing about it was how the main girl acted and the fact that the resentment that Kent was sure she had for him was unfair. Plus the whole situation was underwhelming due to the fact that Kent was a mere witness, there was no misunderstanding of his actions (from me at least), he didn't do anything that deserved being labeled as the bad guy, the main girl just overreacted in the most OOC way if I'm supposed to be her. I feel like the whole mystery was for nothing, I just expected something that involved Kent more, rather than something that happened by coincidence and he happened to be there to be totally helpful and be treated unfairly. I expected him to have some kind of misunderstanding to clear up, but instead I found the main girl being a brat.

Anyway, setting aside the times when the main girl is an unfair drama queen, I enjoyed Kent's story. I also find that the main girl is excessively submissive in some of the other routes, though it doesn't come up with Kent since he is defensive at first but very respectful. He had to be on his guard if he was going to have arguments thrown at him over silly things (such as his text messages being too short). Plus he spelled it out several times requesting to be told about any complaints that the girl might have.

I'm under the impression that the poor guy was a victim of one of those girls who assume men are mind reader. Men as not mind readers, nor are they particularly skilled at reading deeply within the lines, especially Kent who tends to take things at face value, but he is aware of it and requests clear feedback, so I can only conclude that the main girl was being a drama queen brat by expecting him to guess her expectation rather than simply saying "this is what I want" no matter how many times Kent asked her to just tell him.

In conclusion, I only like Kent (as a bishonen) and Orion (as a baby brother), I don't like the main girl and though I wouldn't say that I truly dislike the other bishonen, I do find them kind of annoying sometimes. That may change for better or worse as I learn more about them, I'll continue live tweeting as I play at https://twitter.com/miliazure
