Alright guys, I'm back from my day-trip to San Francisco, and now for a little story before my little review here....
I always thought this anime tie-in Beyblade: Metal Fusion looked like a cool series, and every here-and-there I watched an episode or two on Cartoon Network, getting ideas for my comic book series (Galaxy Legends) over the past few years with its 3 (I think?) seasons... so last summer at Save Mart for $5 (you heard me right, LAST SUMMER) I got the DVD of Beyblade: MF because it was cheap and happened to be there so I went ahead and bought it (7 episodes?! Holy crap! Most "volume" DVDs of a series are about 4-5 episodes... that's over 2 hours :O )
Being a guy who grew up with Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon (mainly Frontier), etc, I had to keep in mind that this series is not based on a card game, but a toy franchise (this series is actually a spin-off from an older Beyblade back on Disney in 2004 or so, would have been fun to see that, but oh well...), and I think it came back for that fact after Bakugan scored big with its card and toy tie-ins (that's one of the better ones... some of the card tie-in animes actually look a bit rushed, like Tai Chi Chasers, Scan2Go, and even Monsuno, which looks like Baku and Bey together to tell the truth...), so I was hoping this would be cool to check out, so I did see the first 5 1/2 episodes while coming back from San Francisco back to Galt!

And the verdict...? I like it!

For one thing, the style of it all (story/characters/even the places) is futuristic and stylish, and it gets to be very attitude-based when it needs to, heroic when it needs to, dark (even gothic!) when it needs to, exciting when it needs to, humorous when it needs to, etc, it all comes together great... and even though seeing these weird CGI Beyblade tops clashing into each other is annoying to me, it still feels like a well put-together anime tie-in! Even the theme song's pretty cool... But I'll admit it doesn't live up to the addictiveness of some of the earlier ones I grew up with, but it's still really cool!
Great characters too, there's the likable green-haired kid (forgot his name already, screw me...), Gingka (who I thought was cliche at VERY first, but he's actually really cool and does have some triumphant moments, as well as a love for hamburgers, gets funny XD), the cute (even with her attitude and smart personality) Madoka Amano, who seems to have a fair share of swimsuit-moments in the series (I'm serious, those animators knew detail when it came to that XD) as well as often remindnig me of my gf Rachael (:3), plus there's more characters I'll find out about... even the villains are pretty interesting! I really dig the character design of Gingka's first rival and that tall guy with the glasses is really mysterious, and whoever does the voice for him did a great job... then there's that crab guy (Oh god yes XD his backstory is kinda brutal though...) and the bull guy (I like his realizations and then becoming a good guy eventually, but his constant "Bull! Bull! Bull! Bull!" is really annoying, coming from the guy who doesn't mind th crab guy saying "Snap snap!", and that may confuse you XD
Story-wise, it's pretty good for a kids' tie-in anime, I'll admit, and for some episodes the resolution is really good, and sometimes it even backfires, but it's either triumphant at whatever emotion it's sending, or even played for laughs, which is still great :)
However, there are plot holes, but I will get to that later....
And now for it being dubbed, this obviously is not 4kids, plus anyone could tell by even the way they talk (there was a mention of a booger in the 2nd episode), it was rather a Canadian dubbing company, the one that brought Bakugan to YTV and Cartoon Network, so I was hoping to recognize at least one voice in the cast (considering TDI was from Canada and I'm a big fan of that)... everyone else I'll have to look up, but the CRAB GUY is Scott McCord! The voice of Owen and Trent in TDI, and I recognized that voice when the crazy crab guy was yelling (which he does a LOT), and he sounds a lot like Owen (playful attitude, but weird knowing OWen was a nice guy and these words are coming from a supervillain XP), heck, he even sounded like Trent in his back-story! Oh yeah, did I mention he's Dan in Bakugan? Yeah, watch the episode and see for yourself XDDD
And now for the FLAWS.... yes, always see these :P
-There was this interesting plot going on with the main villain for episodes 3-4 involving Gangka's first rival and the tall guy with glasses, it was actually pretty interesting but in episode 5 they forgot about it for the crab guy episode... as much as I like a berak from a plot, even for it to come back later, ut felt a little out-of-it to just stop where it did... but oh well, I only saw 5 1/2 episodes tonight XD
-The CGI for the Beys.... kinda average and even distracting, but oh well :P
-HUGE, cool-looking cast on the back of the DVD cover! One problem... NONE OF THEM ARE IN THESE EPISODES (except the crab guy), they were all either in the later episodes or in the next season (like that blond kid I see in the pic), and yes< I know it was only 5 1/2 out of the 7 episodes, but my brother saw these already and apparently they really aren't in it! There's even a guy on the FRONT of the cover I don't remember at all... yeah XD

Anyway, that's my low-down on Bayblade: MEtal Fusion, this is the first time I ever gave a full-on review for something here on Facebook, and I know I probably am not gonna get full-on into the series anytime soon due to other things, but it was still fun to check out the first 5 episodes! Until next time, let it rip! ;)
